TAKING ACTION IN SITU: Congress @ Kunststiftung / Kunstbüro Baden-Württemberg

Das Kunstbüro Baden-Württemberg, eine Initiative der Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, hat sich mit seiner Hilfestellung für junge Künstler im Land kontinuierlich einen hinlänglich bekannten Namen gemacht. Fachmännische Beratung, Workshops, Vorträge, Symposien - das Kunstbüro ist für den Nachwuchs in der Welt da draußen da und erweitert den Horizont sonstiger Interessierter. Sein neuestes Projekt: der Kongress, der den Künstler fragt: "Wie frei bist du?" 

Ganz schön selbstreflektierend, was das Kunstbüro der Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg da auf dem Plan stehen hat. Am 21. und 22. Oktober 2011 veranstaltet es in den Wagenhallen Stuttgart einen Kongress, der die geförderte Kunstszene fragt: "Wie frei bist du?" Denn in politischer, ökonomischer und ästhetischer Hinsicht stehen heutige Kunststiftungen stellenweise in der Kritik, nicht ganz zweckfrei zu agieren und somit Einfluss auf die Kunstschaffenden ausüben, sie ihrer Autonomie zu berauben. 

Das Programm für diesen Kongress sieht für den ersten Tag nach Grußworten von Jürgen Walter, Helen Heberer (Mitglieder des Landtags) und Bernd Georg Milla (Geschäftsführer der Kunststiftung) eine Podiumsdiskussion mit Prof. Dr. Yvonne P. Doderer (freie Architektin, Professorin für Cultural Studies der FH Düsseldorf), Katrin Ströbel (Künstlerin, Stipendiatin der Kunststiftung), Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wertheimer (Professor für Literaturwissenschaften der Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen) und Dr. Christoph Behnke (Dozent für Kulturwissenschaft der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg) sowie Projektpräsentationen von Peter Weigand und Jan Edler (Architekten)  vor. Am zweiten Tag folgen u.a. Seminare verschiedener Kulturgattungen mit Prof. Michael Lingner (Professor für Kunsttheorie der Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg), Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wertheimer, Bea Kießlinger (Dramaturgin, Vorstand des Dachverbandes Tanz Deutschland), Iris Dressler und Hans Christ (Direktoren des Württembergischen Kunstvereins), Prof. Mini Schulz (Professorin für Jazz und Popularmusik der Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart) und Stefan Beck (Künstler), es folgen die Präsentationen der Ergebnisse sowie weitere Projektpräsentationen von südafrikanischen KünstlerInnen mit Philip Metz (Künstler, Stipendiat der Kunststiftung) und Hasko Weber (Intendant Schauspiel Staatstheater Stuttgart).

The Kunstbüro Baden-Württemberg, an initiative of the foundation Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg, has constantly made a sufficiently well-known name for themselves by giving young artists in the country a hand. Expert advice, workshops, lectures, symposiums – the Kunstbüro reaches out to the youngsters out there and broadens the horizons of others being interested. The initiative’s newest project: a congress asking the artist: “How free are you?”

The Kunstbüro of the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg is planning to do something quite self reflecting. They will make a congress asking the supported art scene the question “How free are you?” in the Wagenhallen Stuttgart on 21^st and 22^nd October 2011. As a reason, today’s art foundations sometimes have come under criticism in terms of political, economic, and aesthetic aspects, as they have been accused of not acting free of ulterior motives and thus of influencing the artists, taking their autonomy from them.

After welcoming speeches by Jürgen Walter, Helen Heberer (Members of Parliament), and Bernd Georg Milla (general manager of the foundation) on day one, this congress’ program provides a panel discussion with Prof. Dr. Yvonne Doderer (free architect, professor for cultural studies at the FH Düsseldorf), Katrin Ströbel (artist receiving the foundation’s scholarship), Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wertheimer (professor for literary studies at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen), and Dr. Christoph Behnke (lecturer for cultural studies at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg) as well as project presentations by Peter Weigand and Jan Edler (architects). The second day follows for example with seminars for different cultural genres with Prof. Michael Lingner (professor for art theory of the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg), Prof. Dr. Jürgen Wertheimer, Bea Kießlinger (dramatic advisor, board member of the umbrella organization Tanz Deutschland), Iris Dressler and Hans Christ (directors of the Württembergischer Kunstverein), Prof. Mini Schulz (professor for jazz and pop music at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart), and Stefan Beck (artist), further the results will be presented as well as projects by South African artists together with Philip Metz (artist receiving the foundation’s scholarship) and Hasko Weber (artistic and business directorship for drama at the Staatstheater Stuttgart).
